RESPONSE IMPLEMENTATION

Earthquake Response, Christian Aid, Nepal Following the Earthquake in April 2015, RedR India supported Christian Aid by undertaking the initial rapid assessment and deploying a surge response team to support core relief operations and programmes. RedR India then provided them with technical support and capacity building on temporary and transitional sheltering solutions and deployed multiple project staff to support direct implementation and project management.

Flash Floods Response, Jammu and Kashmir, UNICEF IndiaFollowing the flash floods in 2014, RedR India deployed a surge team to undertake rapid needs assessment which then informed UNICEF’s response and recovery initiative while providing vital assessment information to the wider sector. Following the assessment, RedR established the Srinagar District Coordination Support under the aegis of the District Collectorate and managed the multi partner INGO and NGO response supported by UNICEF India across the districts. In parallel, RedR India also ran its pilot Real Time Capacity Building project to directly influence and enhance frontline capacities of people directly working with the affected population like college students, young volunteers, first responders, front line service providers etc.

Floods Response, Jammu and Kashmir, Christian Aid IndiaAn 8 member team of RedR India conducted rapid assessment in Jammu &Kashmir and helped support initial response actions of partners of Christian Aid. Based on the preliminary assessment findings, WASH and NFIs emerged as a priority sectors for immediate interventions; whereas Srinagar, Anantnag and Kulgam were identified as worst affected districts in Kashmir division.  Subsequently, a three member team was deployed to carry out WASH and Shelter technical assessments and to establish interventions for Christian Aid partners.

Flash Floods Response, ACC, UttarakhandRedR in partnership with ACC undertook rapid and detailed technical assessment on WASH in Uttarakhand following the flash floods. Based on the assessment a rapid response plan was designed for WASH interventions in urban and rural communities to provision drinking water and sanitation facilities. These facilities were complimented by public health promotion work undertaken by ACC’s community based partners and volunteers. RedR provided technical support, human resources, procurement and project management support to help implement the response project.

Conflict Response and Recovery, UNICEF Chattisgarh, India- From 2006 to 2012 RedR India worked in Dantewada region of Chattisgarh in partnership with UNICEF India. During the course of 6 years, RedR India supported UNICEF’s interventions on public health,   nutrition, education and protection. The work of RedR India initially involved implementation support through deployments for Public Health Engineering, Public Health Promotion, Project Management and Programme Design. This was often complemented with capacity building interventions with local actors and set up of essential services and facilities in temporary camps. In 2010, RedR India carried out a security and safety review through an integrated assessment of the impact of the socio-political environment and actors on programme service delivery. Later that year, RedR India was engaged in a medium term assignment for building Hygiene Promotion capacities among WASH volunteers in Dantewada to enhance access of WASH services and communication outreach. The capacity building process importantly involved the development of IEC (Information, Education, Communication) material in the local dialects with contextual visuals resulting in a kit that was therefore widely accepted and applied by all stakeholders engaged in public health service delivery. This was also complemented with capacity building and outreach for improved water supply with the Public Health Engineering Department. As a phase out mechanism, RedR India deployed a monitoring and evaluation specialist to work with the local partners to develop, apply and sustain a MIS system through remote management and building of local capacities and resources.
